EVAPORATE (2) finished 3 lengths from the winner in tenth last time out in the G1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield over 1600m. Form over this journey is strong, boasting three wins from six starts. Well placed in this far easier grade. Major player. DECLICHY BOULEVARD (12) is a talented mare who was well held last time out in the tougher race won by God's Window over 1600m at this track, beaten 4.5 lengths into 12th. Has been in solid form this campaign with a win and a placing from three starts. Should be hard to stop. LINEBACKER (1) found the line nicely to grab third last time out over 1400m in the G3 Alan Brown Stakes at Rosehill. Takes on much easier opposition this time. Well placed and is one of the main contenders. WELCOMETOTHESHOW (7) showed good early dash last start and held on well to finish a long neck back in third over 1600m in the G1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield. Ready to go a couple better.
Dabble
EVAPORATE (2) Tailed off to finish 10th last time at Caulfield. Happy to forgive that run and will find this grade more suitable. Strong form at the distance. Serious player. LINEBACKER (1) Displayed good finishing speed when 3rd last start at Rosehill and will try to take advantage of the draw. Carrying more weight than last time. Winning prospect. DECLICHY BOULEVARD (12) Not up to standard when 12th last start at this venue but has been racing in stronger company. Showing great form since coming back from a break. Respect in this event. HARRY'S YACHT (9) Advanced late into 5th last start at Caulfield. Worth an each way bet in this.
Racing and Sports
EVAPORATE (2) scored convincingly three runs back over this distance at Sandown and has subsequently struggled in Group 1 races. Finds his right level today and is beautifully treated under the set weights and penalties. Big chance to return to winning ways. DECLICHY BOULEVARD (12) dominated two back in a BM88 over the mile here then found the Epsom a bridge too far a fortnight ago. Talented mare who gets weight off all her rivals which puts her right in contention. LINEBACKER (1) settled worse than midfield then closed in good style to get up for third in the Group 3 Alan Brown over 1400m at Rosehill last time. A better Randwick horse and should be close to his peak now. WELCOMETOTHESHOW (7) ran the race of his life in the Toorak last start, looking the winner until the shadow of the post. Drawn to play a key role again. CRISTAL CLEAR (3) won the Group 2 Ajax over this distance when fresh from a spell last prep. Cannot be underestimated first-up from a 23-week lay-off.
Best Bets
5YOs on their path to the $2M 1800m Five Diamonds in a fortnight. 2, 6, 7, 9 and 10 have other options so we look bound to lose at least a couple. As is we can expect pace from 3 ahead of 5, 7 and 2. LINEBACKER not part of that group but from a low barrier he may well be able to settle a lot closer than he did in the race two weeks ago. We know he hasn't been a frequent winner since his 3YO days but he is unquestionably well placed here. Has won the Randwick Guineas and Silver Eagle for Zac Lloyd. WELCOMETOTHESHOW has done a great job going through his grades and here he is now a G1 placegetter. Hard to beat in whatever option is chosen.
