Won the Randwick G2 over 2400m by 1.7 lengths after a close second over 2000m, and is now fourth-up. Drawn wide, he is likely to settle off the pace and will need cover, but his staying form gives him strong claims.

Improving stayer who has closed from the second half for narrow wins at past two. In super form and among the chances again.

Fourth-up, he edged out a G2 win over 2400m at Caulfield last start with a strong finish. The 2500m is suitable and he is hard to beat.

AETHELWULF (12) has five wins and one placing from seven races this campaign. Found one better last start in the G2 The Metropolitan at Randwick over 2400m after being up on the pace all the way. Placed to advantage and can feature in the finish. JUJA KIBO (2) finished in the money at each run this campaign before a deserved win last time over 2400m in the G2 The Metropolitan at Randwick. Has found winning form. Should be involved again. PINHOLE (3) scored last start in the G2 Herbert Power Stakes at Caulfield to make it two wins from three starts this campaign. Going well and must be respected.

THE EUPHRATES (1) Outgunned at the finish when 3rd beaten by just over 3 1/2L last start at Randwick. Has early speed and positions nicely. Going well this campaign. Goes close. AETHELWULF (12) Finished amongst the placegetters when 2nd beaten by 1 3/4L last time at Randwick. The wide draw shouldn't be a problem with plenty of early speed. Goes very close. POINT OF LAW (15) Back after a spell. Was eating up the ground late when winning last time at Newmarket and putting a tidy record together. Racing for a new trainer. Among better hopes. JUJA KIBO (2) Finished hard to win last run at Randwick and getting better in recent performances. Has not missed the placings this campaign in 3 attempts. Underrated.

Racing and Sports

Wide open edition of the Moonee Valley Cup. AETHELWULF (12) and JUJA KIBO (2) come through The Metropolitan and get the visitor's draws. AETHELWULF started $2.80 favourite there, going back to the fence perhaps wasn't ideal and the tempo was very slow. JUJA KIBO was very good coming from just off the speed with a devastating turn of foot to win well. If AETHELWULF is still holding his form deep into the campaign he can turn the tables. PINHOLE (3) is a huge threat off a big win in the G2 Herbert Power, well backed in a driving finish. J-Mac sticks from a lovely middle gate and he's still on an upward spiral. Very wary of KING PEDRO (11) who had a setback leading into the Spring where he was early favourite for The Metropolitan. His return in the G2 Hill Stakes was a beauty, Lane on from a soft draw, just wonder if he's half a run short for this. MR MONACO (7) sat outside a moderate speed and won the G3 Bart Cummings nicely last time. Probably ridden colder here however.

Best Bets

Pace should be okay from So You Are, Mr Monaco and The Euphrates (if here). Lightly raced stayer KING PEDRO ran on well behind Attrition fresh. He is suited by the rise from 1900m to 2500m. JUJA KIBO outlasted AETHELWULF in the Metropolitan. Aethelwulf meets him a kilo better. They've drawn the outside two gates, which isn't ideal. SO YOU ARE has won his past three and from the inside barrier should get a good run again. PINHOLE has closed hard to win his past two. The Irish visitor KIZLYAR can settle forward and give a sight. THE EUPHRATES next, if he backs up from Wednesday's Geelong Cup.
