World's best sprinter who's been breaking track records for fun in Hong Kong since he won this last year. All eyes on the sky.

Second-up after a Sha Tin G3 win over 1200m, with several G1 sprint victories also on the record. The 58.5kg is a factor, but the class credentials are exceptional and he is hard to beat.

Threw down a serious challenge last start here and have to respect the form at this trip. James Mcdonald is a crucial engagement but testing ability against stronger contenders. Watch the betting.

Having second run back today. Last outing came from midfield; 2nd of 11 in a G2 The Shorts at this track on September 19 over 1100m, neck behind Mazu carrying 56kg at $3.70. At only start last preparation tracked the speed and boxed on steadily 3rd of 18 in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Ascot on June 20 over 1207m, neck behind Almeraq with 58kg at $2.90. Had no luck in this race the last two years, place preferred.

Having her third run in the race. Just missed a place last year. Won three of six since and was very good first up in the Shorts.

Second-up following a sixth in the G2 1100m at Randwick, she steps back up to 1200m with a G1 win at this course and distance on her record. Her class makes her a key danger.

Terrific first-up winner. Alley and lack of pressure up front were not helpful second up. Trial winner since over Ka Ying Rising.

Two runs into the prep, he was ninth in the G2 1100m at Randwick after winning a G2 over 1200m there two starts ago. Interference and a wide passage affected the latest run, but he still needs to lift.

Was much too speedy in front to win by a margin of 2 1/4L last run at Rosehill but competing in a more challenging class. Will be a difficult assignment.

Last start favourite; won by 2.25 len in the G3 Heritage Stakes at Rosehill on September 26 over 1100m defeating Ciaron's Star carrying 56.5kg at $1.85. Before that set the pace for much of the race 2nd of 8 in the G3 San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill on August 29 over 1100m, 1.3 len behind Guest House carrying 55kg at $1.95. Yet to win past 1100m and is no Tempted.

Speedy filly who looks an obvious pace influence here. Tough task running 1200m for the first time in this, but gets in light.

Fourth-up, she led and won the G3 1100m at Rosehill last start, extending a strong early-career record. The step to 1200m and elite grade is tougher, though 51kg is a useful advantage.

Second run from a spell favourite; won by a nose in the G2 Gilgai Stakes at Flemington on October 3 over 1200m on a heavy track defeating Smooth Chino carrying 55kg at $2.90. Emergency tested in this field.

Well placed second up and was much too good, albeit it got close on the line when she was eased down. Group 1 placegetter here in April on wet.

Third-up, she comes off a G2 1200m win at Flemington on heavy ground and recorded a G1 third at this course and distance earlier in the year. Recent form gives her a chance, although the grade remains a test.

JOLIESTAR (8) is a genuine six-year-old mare who resumed with a solid second last time out in the G2 The Shorts at this track over 1100m. Leading player. JIMMYSSTAR (2) was a winner over 1200m in the G1 Manikato Stakes at Caulfield last time out, dropping out early before coming home with a powerful run to score by 0.8 lengths. Can feature in the finish again.

Ka Ying Rising is the clear top pick in The Everest, with the Hong Kong superstar looking even better than last year as he aims to defend his title. He returned with a dominant seven-length win at Sha Tin and has continued to produce extraordinary performances, cementing his status as the world’s leading sprinter. Barrier 11 is a minor concern, but Zac Purton should be able to find a suitable position and his sheer class makes him extremely difficult to beat. Tempted is the clear second pick after consecutive Group 2 victories, including a dominant three-length win in the Premiere Stakes. She has developed into Australia’s leading sprinting mare and gets barrier 1, which should allow Chad Schofield to settle closer to the speed and enjoy an economical run. She finished second to Ka Ying Rising in last year’s race and appears capable of getting closer again, although she’ll need to produce a career-best performance to turn the tables. Ka Ying Rising to beat Tempted. KA YING RISING (1) Led and controlled the pace to win by a margin of just short of 8L last time at Sha Tin and proven performer at this distance. Rising in grade. Conditions suit and look for her late. JIMMYSSTAR (2) ran third here last year and looks to be back on track after his classy victory over 6f in the G1 Manikato Stakes at Caulfield. Can stalk the good tempo and figure prominently. JOLIESTAR (8) classy mare who resumed over the unsuitable 5 ½f with a closing second in the G2 The Shorts at this track. Since kept up to the mark with a 5f trial at this course. J Mac sticks and keep safe. NINJA (7) can place.

Best Bets

Here's the highlight sprint of the year. I have 11 and 12 leading from 10, 1, 9 and 7. Where this surfaces ends up is obviously of great interest but the superstar returning would have to be very averse to Soft ground. KA YING RISING is looking at back-to-back Everests and 22 straight overall so something left-field would need to unfold to get an upset out of him. I can see him crossing for a similar trail to last year and if he is to fan a little wider on the bend then so be it, I doubt that's any sort of problem at all. Stable indications are that he is better prepared this year so good luck everything else. TEMPTED was runner-up to him last year and hasn't been beaten since (all here at Randwick). 12 months ago of course she was a filly carrying 51 kilos and also drew on the fence. JOLIESTAR has started $6 fave and $5.50 in the last two runnings. $3.30 the place about her could be the bet I have.

The 20 million dollar Everest will start the quaddie, and everyone's anchor will be 1. KA YING RISING, but if we learned anything last weekend, that there is no such thing as a certainty in racing. This gelding has been nothing short of a machine for the past 2-3 years, and if there is a query, then it may be a heavy track if the predicted rain arrives. He is still on top; what a horse. 9. TEMPTED produced a whirlwind finish to round up some handy types in the G2 Premiere Stakes here 2 weeks ago, and if she can get some clear air after drawing the pole position, then she can make her presence felt. 2. JIMMYSSTAR reminded everyone what he is capable of when storming home from last to win the G1 Manikato Stakes at Caulfield nearly 3 weeks ago. He is right in this, especially if the rain comes. 8. JOLIESTAR was only beaten by a head fresh up in the G2 Shorts here 4 weeks ago. Don't risk her. 7. NINJA had excuses last start and has beaten the top pick in a recent trial. Interesting.
