Before that made some head-way from midfield; 2nd of 8 in the G1 Underwood Stakes at this track on September 19 over 1800m, 1.75 len behind Birdman carrying 59kg at $2.25. Lovely profile through top races, if he stays the trip he just about wins.

Relished the heavy track in his comfortable Turnbull win. Had his chance running a good second at previous. Among the chances again.

Deep into a six-run campaign, he won a G1 over 2000m at Flemington last start after a G1 second and third in his previous two runs. The step up in distance is the key test, but his recent figures make him hard to beat.

Awful latest but profiled beautifully prior, drier ground should suit much better.

Strong winner here second up. Heavy track was against him last time. Has a win and a close second from two runs at this trip. Include.

Third-up, he won a Caulfield G3 over 2000m two starts ago before finishing 11th on heavy ground last start. The drop to 53kg and a first-time tongue tie are positives; 2400m remains a test, but he is a credible contender.

Has won previously first-up and resumes here after a break of nine weeks. Finished off last preparation by 1.5 len Newbury G3 Geoffrey Freer August 15 over 2715m defeating Tabletalk with 61kg at $4.50. Previous preparation first-up won by 2 len Ascot May 9 over 2414m defeating Bulletin carrying 54kg at $17. Talented raider, the booking of D Lane is a huge positive.

Lightly raced English on-pacer who faded late over 2816m two back. Kept rolling over 2671m at latest. Drawn wide but can give a sight.

Resumes from a 63-day break after winning over 2671m at Newbury in his fifth campaign run. Earlier wins over 2249m and 2405m reinforce his stamina, making him a genuine contender.

Returns from a 77-day break after winning over 2412m at Goodwood last start, having previously finished eighth at Royal Ascot over 2003m. The staying win is encouraging, but he needs to reproduce that form here; an outside chance.

Don't mind the backup from last week, should be staying on well.

Won with 61kg fresh. Just outside the placings at weight-for-age his past two. Drops in weight. Fifth on a heavy track at only run this trip.

On his seventh campaign outing, he was fourth in the G1 over 2000m at Caulfield last start after another fourth over 1800m. His figures are strong and a forward map makes the rise to 2400m interesting, although the risk of covering ground wide is genuine.

Resuming. Finished off last campaign third of 8 at Roscommon in the LR Lenebane Stks June 30 over 2414m, 5.5 len behind Bosphorus Rose carrying 63.5kg at $1.90. First up last campaign fifth of 18 at Curragh April 3 over 2011m, 7 len behind Fiver Friday with 64.5kg at $12. Have to respect stable but draw not ideal and best form been on wet ground.

Settled six lengths away and came through the field for only win three back. Too far back but home well at Chester. Had 63.5kg latest. Chance.

First up after 109 days, having finished third over 2414m in Ireland in June. Previous wins over staying trips give him some credentials, but he was beaten 5.6 lengths in his latest placing and needs to improve.

Nice profile and a chance if he can sneak in.

COSMIC CRUSADER (2) scored at his most recent appearance, getting home by 1.75 lengths over 2000m in the G1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington. That continued the very strong form this campaign, with three wins and two minor placings from five starts. Leading player again. ENFJAAR (7) lines up for the first time since August 1. Started the last campaign impressively when in the placings over 2011m at Goodwood. Has a strong first-up record, scoring on three occasions from six starts. Expect him to play a major role. SHE'S A HUSTLER (14) has been out of the placings in two runs since a break, the latest when seventh, beaten 10 lengths, over 2000m in the G1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington. Scored at her only try at this trip and looks the main danger. ROYAL SUPREMACY (9) was fair fresh then improved nicely to win by 0.8 lengths last time over 2000m in the G3 JRA Cup at this track. Better suited having placed at the longer trip before. Tougher assignment this time but is not to be discounted.

Dabble

A capacity field lines up for the 2026 Caulfield Cup, with the emergencies unlikely to gain a start at this stage. There doesn’t appear to be a great deal of speed on paper, with Royal Supremacy the likely leader. Wine Dark Sea is the top pick making his Australian debut. The British import arrives in excellent form after winning three of his past four starts, including the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes over 2671m at Newbury, where he carried 61kg. He drops to 54.5kg and has the stamina and class to make a major impact. Barrier 19 is the obvious concern, but Damian Lane knows Caulfield as well as anyone. Was much too speedy in front when winning by 1 1/2L last time at Newbury but facing a stronger group of contenders. No surprise to see a forward showing and one of the main hopes in this race. COSMIC CRUSADER (2) Rocketed home when winning last run at Flemington and getting better in recent performances. Jockey William Pike rates highly. Has run into the placings at every start this campaign. Can measure up to this company. ROYAL SUPREMACY (9) Gave them all something to chase to win by a margin of 3/4L last run at this venue but up against tougher rivals. Gets a reduction in weight. In the mix. ZAHRANN (16) Couldn't maintain the pace when 11th last time at Flemington but carrying less weight this time. Appears well in this.

G1 Caulfield Cup time and COSMIC CRUSADER (2) will go in as clearly the best last-start performance having smashed some of our best 1 ¼m horses in the G1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington. He was the best equipped on a soft track in a fast race but stood up strongly and off that, it's tough to say he won't stay 1 ½m. The draw isn't ideal and onto firmer here but he's very well weighted. ENFJAAR (7) is the pick of the internationals for ours. He was midfield in a red-hot Listed race at Royal Ascot (almost G1 quality) then rose to this trip for the first time and led all of the way at Goodwood in a new career peak, a repeat of which goes close. SHE'S A HUSTLER (14) can be an improver to this trip third up, her fresh run said she'd come back well before a much tougher run in the Turnbull. GREEN SPACES (8) might be the blowout. He looked on track early doors and has the perfect platform for the red-hot Baker/King combination. ROYAL SUPREMACY (9) maps well and can give a sight.

Best Bets

The visitors Enfjaar and Wine Dark Sea should ensure a solid pace. SAINT GEORGE never came into it on the heavy track in the Turnbull. He went back from barrier 16 running a close second to ZAHRANN here two back. He meets that horse 3kg better and shouldn't get as far back from gate two. ZAHRANN didn't like the heavy going either last start. His previous form was excellent. ROYAL SUPREMACY will have the services of top English hoop Jamie Spencer. He was a strong on-pace winner here last time. ENFJAAR should take catching. STARFORD will concede a start but can finish hard. COSMIC CRUSADER next.

A strong version of the 6.5 million dollar Caulfield Cup is the penultimate race of a terrific card of racing. 2. COSMIC CRUSADER silenced many critics with a powerful win in the G1 Turnbull Stakes here 2 weeks ago on a heavy track. He tries 2400m for the first time, but is bred to cope, and he only needs luck from a wide gate to be the one to beat again. 7. ENFJAAR is a UK raider who booked his automatic entry to this race by winning the Glorious Stakes at Goodwood at the start of August, which was his first try at this trip. A good track is no problem, and he is nicely placed at the weights to win again. 14. SHE'S A HUSTLER has needed both of her starts back from a spell, and a heavy track was against her in the G1 Turnbull Stakes last time out. 2400m is what she needs now, so don't risk her. 8. GREEN SPACES is at his peak fitness fourth up, and he was a brave fourth in the G2 Metropolitan at Randwick 2 weeks ago. He is nicely placed at the weights and can get some of this.

SAINT GEORGE (12) had a Caulfield win and second over 2000m before the heavy-track 10th; Good ground and 53.5kg look more suitable. ZAHRANN (16) won a Caulfield G3 over 2000m before finishing 11th on heavy; the lighter weight and first-time tongue tie support a rebound. KINGSWOOD (4) was fourth, beaten 1.8 lengths, in a Caulfield G1 over 2000m last start and brings strong figures, with the extra trip the test.
