Second run from a spell ran on from midfield; 3rd of 10 in the G3 Bill Ritchie Handicap at Randwick on September 19 over 1400m, 1.2 len behind General Salute carrying 61kg at $4. Profiles nicely. Won this race last year and gets maps favours today.

Strong return winner then lumped plenty of weight in a dash home and ran well in the Bill Ritchie. Tough to beat.

Third-up, following a close third in a G3 over 1400m last start with a G2 win over the same trip. One of the main winning hopes.

Unable to stalk the good mare and then finish off in the small field last start, but was very good fresh and can bounce back.

Now three-up, coming off a fifth in a G2 over 1600m; returning to 1400m with 61kg is the key challenge. G1 credentials still put this among the leading winning chances.

Previously second-up won by 2 len in a Bm78 at Eagle Farm on August 30 2025 over 1400m defeating Alectrona with 60kg at $3.50. Will push forward and give plenty of cheek.

Box-seated and was held up at a key stage when game in defeat fresh. That form has been franked. Not the worst.

Runner-up in a G2 over 1300m last start and second-up here, with an on-pace map a positive. A place chance, though the class rise is the test.

Returns from a long break after two Rosehill trial wins in September; the last official start was an eased 10th in a G3 over 1500m. The trials are encouraging, but the race return remains a major query.

First up after a break. At $11.00 fairly underwhelming when 15th last run at this venue and facing stiffer opposition. Down in trip. Gets some weight relief. Very weak selection.

Resuming after a break of four-and-a-half months. Finished off last preparation 15th of 18 at this track in the LR Mayors Cup May 30 over 2000m, on rain affected going; 12 len behind Portland with 58kg at $11. When resuming last campaign fourth of 15 at Caulfield in the G3 Vic Hcp April 4 over 1400m, 3 len behind Hughes carrying 57.5kg at $26. Others seem to have his measure.

Resuming (19 weeks). Given three trials. Ran on well for fourth in track-record time over 1400m first up last prep. Betting?

Resumes after 133 days following a 15th in a Listed 2000m race on heavy ground; dropping back to 1400m is a significant change in distance. Needs a sharp return to feature.

Before that ran second last of 8 in the G2 Tramway Stakes at Randwick on September 5 over 1400m, 5.5 len behind Headley Grange with 57kg at $5. Deserves another chance.

Didn't run on when ridden quieter second up. Went forward and had every chance in a sprint home latest. Each way.

Fourth-up after finishing third in a G2 over 1500m last start, having previously run second in a G2 over 1400m at Caulfield; maps off the pace. Remains a credible closer.

SEPALS (5) kept coming only to just miss when fresh from a spell last start over 1400m in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield. Will take a lot from that hitout. Needs to be at his best to beat this field but he deserves his chance. LADY SHENANDOAH (6) finished fourth in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield over this distance last time out. Form over this journey is strong, boasting two wins from four starts. Will find this easier. Among the leading chances this field. HEADLEY GRANGE (2) scored by a nose two back in the G2 Tramway Stakes at Randwick then filled a placing last time in the G3 Bill Ritchie Handicap at Randwick. Gets a little weight relief. Adam Hyeronimus who has eight wins when partnering stays on. Has winning claims on best figures. ALTHOFF (17) was well in commission last time but ran below expectations when seventh and beaten 3 lengths over 1400m in the G3 Bill Ritchie Handicap at Randwick. Best figures too good to ignore.

Dabble

HEADLEY GRANGE (2) Picked up late ground when 3rd beaten by 1L last start at Randwick and will be well suited at the trip. Jockey Adam Hyeronimus has been successful previously. Fights on bravely so consider. GRINGOTTS (1) Didn't threaten when 5th last time at Randwick. Overlooking the last run and up against a less challenging field. Can go through the gears. Looks promising in this race. LINEBACKER (11) Improved late to finish 4th last run at Randwick. Placed 3rd in a barrier trial at Hawkesbury on Sept 29th. Must be considered. SEPALS (5) Zipped home into 2nd last run at Caulfield and have to respect the form at this distance. Jamie Mott rates highly. Genuine winning chance.

Racing and Sports

Good race. LINEBACKER (11) multiple Group winner well placed for this with his sound second up record. Like the way he attacked the line first up when fourth in the G3 Bill Ritchie Handicap at Randwick over this trip. Since fitted with a 1030m trial placing and drops in weight. Respect. HEADLEY GRANGE (2) won this race last year from a wide gate and gets better with age. Second up he shouldered the 61kg for a tough third over 1400m in the G3 Bill Ritchie Handicap. Hyeronimus sticks and he looks to get the right set-up. GRINGOTTS (1) has finished runner-up in this race the last two years. No Autumn Glow to contend with today and looks to be on track for another tilt at The Big Dance. Place preferred. SEPALS (5) Group 1 winner unlucky not to win the G1 Stradbroke Handicap and G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at his last two outings. Can hold a forward position from the awkward draw and figure prominently. GENERAL SALUTE (4) backed up the two good trials with a sharp win in the Bill Ritchie.

Best Bets

6, 7, 10 all in at Caulfield as well. Again it's race in which last year's trifecta - HEADLEY GRANGE, GRINGOTTS and GENERAL SALUTE - return to it. Pace from 12 (crossing right up?) and 13 with 19 and 2 sitting pretty from low draws. SEPALS' latest visit to Sydney didn't go so well but let's not forget he was terrific running 2nd to Autumn Glow in last year's Golden Eagle and his G1 placings either side of a break have him well poised in what looks a suitable race. Jamie Mott rode him twice very early on (for two wins) and he has made the journey up. LADY SHENANDOAH also in the Toorak at Caulfield. Respect to her wherever she goes. MAGNATEAR place value?

The Group 3 Alan Brown Stakes over 1400m has attracted a very strong field to chase 1.5 million dollars. 5. SEPALS tried ever so hard fresh up at Caulfield when finishing second in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes there 3 weeks ago. This is his pet trip, and though his lack of recent wins is a touch of a concern, he does look to be very nicely placed in this. He can settle close to the pace, and get in the final strides here. 6. LADY SHENANDOAH is a top quality mare when fully fit, and she will be close to her peak third up from a spell after contesting a pair of G1 races to start this season. Hard to beat, so follow your money. 2. HEADLEY GRANGE won the G2 Tramway Stakes fresh up by a nose at Randwick, and then was an unlucky third there as the favourite last time out. He can secure a cosy run from a handy gate in this, and should be in the finish again. 17. ALTHOFF could not sprint with them when asked last time out, and he should get a more genuine tempo in this. Stick with him.

SANDPAPER (12) looks the clearest leader, with ROBUSTO (9) close to the speed; SEPALS (5) maps just behind them and should get her chance to finish over the top. SEPALS (5) was runner-up by 0.8 lengths in a G1 over 1400m last start and has another G1 second at the distance. GRINGOTTS (1) brings G1 credentials despite the 61kg impost, while HEADLEY GRANGE (2) is third-up after a G3 third and a G2 win over 1400m. GENERAL SALUTE (4) arrives off a G3 win at 1400m and adds a recent winning profile among the main chances.
