LINDERMANN (1) bounced straight to the front from the rails draw and led into the straight but emptied and weakened out if it to finish eighth over 1800m in the G1 Underwood Stakes at Caulfield. Easier assignment this time. Sure to run well. ELIYASS (2) strode forward early from his wide draw last start over 2000m in the G2 Kingston Town Stakes at Randwick only to fade late and finish fourth. Will be handy in the run and should prove hard to run down. ZAMBARDO (6) finished 3.5 lengths away in fourth last time out over 1600m at Caulfield two weeks ago. Steps up in journey today. Right in this. MILITARIZE (4) turned in another moderate effort last start when 4 lengths from the winner in tenth over 1600m at Randwick at the second run back from a spell. No surprise to see him in contention.
Dabble
ELIYASS (2) Peaked on the run when 4th last time at Randwick. Tim Clark is a bonus. Has plenty of early speed. Rates a winning chance. LINDERMANN (1) Folded up in the straight when 8th last start at Caulfield. Expected to rebound and competing in a less challenging grade. Nash Rawiller is a plus. Top prospects. MILITARIZE (4) Backing up quickly for this race. Came in 10th last run at Randwick but will appreciate a good draw. Goes up in weight. Right in this. ATTRITION (3) Ran 3rd last time at Caulfield and going down in class. Market watch advised and can run into the money.
Racing and Sports
LINDERMANN (1) failed to handle the Victorian way of going third up in a strong rating contest with a tiring last over 1800m in the G1 Underwood Stakes at Caulfield. Won this race last year and looks to get a soft lead. Expect Nash Rawiller to get the best out of him. ELIYASS (2) tough gelding ready to peak and gets the gun run. Strode forward from the outside draw and never surrendered on the line with a game fourth over 2000m in the G2 Kingston Town Stakes at Randwick. Adept in all conditions and has genuine top three prospects. ZAMBARDO (6) looking for this distance third up and goes well at this track. Didn't get the right set-up in the small field when fourth over 1600m at Caulfield in the G2 Feehan. Has the form to take this out. ATTRITION (3) comes up to Sydney fourth up after surprising at the big odds when third in the G1 Underwood Stakes at Caulfield over 1800m. Won this race in 2024. Respect. KING PEDRO (9) exciting stayer worth thought with residual fitness on his side.
Best Bets
A handful of these ran in the race last year, with LINDERMANN winning as a $2.30 favourite. Last year's 2nd and 3rd - ATTRITION and KOVALICA - finished 1st and 2nd in the race back in 2024. That win remains ATTRITION's most recent but he clearly enjoys a visit to Sydney and a last start G1 3rd (Cosmic Crusader 2nd) is good form to bring along. Can see him trailing nice and handy on the fence, similar to last start. LINDERMANN will be happy to return to more familiar surrounds. Yes, he has run hot and cold this prep but he is due for hot so.....winning chance but odds-on.....really??
TAB
The Group 2 Hill Stakes will start the quaddie, and a smallish field will be chasing 2 million dollars over 1900m. 1. LINDERMANN is not the same horse when racing in an anti-clockwise direction, and his last start at Caulfield is best ignored. He is likely to work his way to the front again here, and he will take plenty of pegging back. 2. ELIYASS is still a query at this level, and his last couple of runs have been sound without looking like a winner. He gets a good chance here to plant himself on the pace from a superior draw without working too hard, and if he finds his rhythm, then he can figure in the top 3. 6. ZAMBARDO was reported to be feeling the firm ground at Caulfield last time out, and he treks north in the hope of finding some cut in the track here. With conditions to suit, he can have a say in the finish here. 4. MILITARIZE was not far away in the G1 Epsom at Randwick last week, and stepping up an extra 300m is the key third up from a spell. Don't risk him.
Racing Central
LINDERMANN (1) should settle handy behind likely leader ELIYASS (2), with ATTRITION (3) also forward and MILITARIZE (4) expected to race off the pace. ELIYASS (2) appears well placed to dictate. LINDERMANN (1) has a pair of G1 seconds over 2000m and a G2 mile win, despite finishing eighth in a G1 last time. ELIYASS (2) comes off a third in a G2 over 2000m and has the strongest recent figures. MILITARIZE (4) needs to bounce back from a G1 10th, though his middle-distance form remains competitive. ATTRITION (3) improved to third in his latest G1 and maps forward again, making him a serious chance.
