Strong win last time and will be hard to hold out.

Got back in a race not run to suit when fancied first up, doing well finding winning form second up. Should continue to progress.

Third-up after winning the Geelong BM78, getting clear late after being held up near the 400m. The mile suits this in-form closer; hard to beat.

Looks tested despite the low draw.

Got too far back in a race not run to suit at Geelong. Previous consistent form reads well, worth another chance from a better draw.

Ninth run of the prep after finishing ninth in the Geelong BM78, 5.4 lengths away, having previously placed second over 1600m. Recent figures are modest, and BM80 looks beyond current form.

Returns from a 32-day let-up. Most recently held ground to the line 2nd of 12 in a Bm66 at Bendigo on October 4 over 1600m, on a slow track; 1.3 len behind Our Justify carrying 56kg at $8.50. The start before that won by 1.5 len in a Mdn-Sw at Bendigo on September 20 over 1600m defeating King Winston carrying 59.5kg at $4. This is a tough assignment.

Nice maiden win from the widest gate two start ago, run down at the 200m by a smart type last time. Can again prove competitive.

Ninth-up after consecutive top-two finishes over 1600m, most recently runner-up in a BM66 at Bendigo. The trip suits, but BM80 represents a substantial class rise.

Recent form sound. Last start 4th of 9 in a Bm70 at Sale on October 25 over 1400m, on heavy track; 1.5 len behind Kahhof carrying 56kg at $3.70. Before that won by 3 len in a Mdn-Sw at Geelong on October 7 over 1447m in soft going defeating Silky Seth with 59.5kg at $1.75. Progressive sort who can run well up to this trip.

Easy all the way maiden winner two starts ago, battling on ok on the heavy going last start. Tougher test here.

Four-up after finishing fourth in a BM70 at Sale, following a maiden win and a runner-up finish. Early speed is a positive, but BM80 is a searching grade test.

Racing and Sports

BEL MEZYAAN (4) was well supported when resuming last time out over 1400m at Bendigo and proved too strong, scoring by a long neck. Was a winner at the only previous second-up run and looks sure to be in the finish again. SULEK (9) is coming along nicely this prep. Finished fourth when fresh from a spell two starts back at Ballarat then improved and scored over 1500m at Geelong two weeks ago, getting home by a head. Meets some better types this time but another win beckons. OUR JUSTIFY (13) hasn't raced since a win at Bendigo over 1600m a month ago. Ticking over well with a subsequent trial win at Mornington. Capable of going well on best figures. ROSA AOTEAROA (5) turned in a nice effort last time out at the second run of the campaign and finished just a long neck from the winner in second over 1400m at Bendigo. Finds a suitable race and can find the winner's circle.

Dabble

SULEK (9) Rocketed home when winning last run at Geelong and form has been improving over recent runs. Has to be included. BEL MEZYAAN (4) Backing up quickly. Finished well when winning last time at Bendigo. Craig Newitt and Jerome Hunter show promise as a combination. Likes the cut in the ground with 1 win. Respect. LOFTY THOUGHTS (8) Rocketed home when winning last start at Seymour. Won last 2 on the trot. Jockey James Mcdonald is in form. 2 wins from 4 starts have been on soft going. Serious player. OUR JUSTIFY (13) Stormed home to win last time at Bendigo but facing a stronger group of contenders. Keeping a perfect win record the last 2 runs and carrying less weight this time. Won't be far away.

Timeform (FanDuel)

BEL MEZYAAN (4) won his way into this Final with a strong victory on Bendigo Cup day, coming from off the speed on a day that suited those leading, getting the upper hand late to score by a long neck. Up to a mile suits ideally now and he should get a lovely run midfield. SULEK (9) is improving third-up, having edged out Yam by a head at Geelong in good time. Stays down in the weights and will be very hard to hold out late. OUR JUSTIFY (13) returns fresh after five weeks which is interesting placement but he's flying with two straight wins, and is a horse still on the up. ROSA AOTEAROA (5), just a long neck behind Bel Mezyaan last week. Up to a mile is a query but Zahra takes the ride and he'll be up on speed. WETUMPKA (14) draws awfully but has upside and can figure.

Best Bets

Impossible race to sort out. WETUMPKA has had a good preparation for the final of this race. He'll appreciate ground better than the H10 he experienced at Sale last start. If these outside lanes are in play by this stage of the day then he's sure to be charging home. OUR JUSTIFY has had good build up also. Jerome Hunter has a strong hand with this mare and BEL MEZYAAN. Dan Stackhouse has been aboard both in their heat wins and OUR JUSTIFY gets the nod for the final. LOFTY THOUGHTS has found the winning habit now. YAM is a good weight carrier. SULEK was just too good for him 1st up. Like the way RICH CHAMPAGNE won 1st up. While a few are suspect 1600m, NARAGHI isn't. Could go on and on.....

A Country Final worth 500K is over 1600m at BM80 level, and it will start the quaddie. 4. BEL MEZYAAN was a decent 3YO and was runner-up in the Bendigo Guineas that season. He has gone the right way since his spell, winning fresh up at that same venue, Bendigo, 8 days ago in BM78 company when qualifying for this race. He has the potential to win this and continue to race his way through the grades this year. 9. SULEK stepped up to 1500m from 1200m second up and got in the final strides to score by a short head at Geelong last start. He may be looking for more ground than 1600m but look for him late again. 13. OUR JUSTIFY will be chasing a hat-trick of wins after a brace of good wins at Bendigo, including her last run there which qualified her for this just over a month ago. She has won a trial since then, so stick with her. 5. ROSA AOTEAROA fought on bravely but was no match for the top pick when finishing runner-up in the same race last start. She peaks for this, so go again.

The expected pace battle between YAM (1) and NARAGHI (12) could set things up for BEL MEZYAAN (4) to finish over the top, while SULEK (9) can settle just off the speed. ROSA AOTEAROA (5) was runner-up, beaten 0.4 lengths by BEL MEZYAAN (4) at Bendigo, while SPIRITED DEFENCE (3) finished third after an earlier BM78 synthetic win this prep. All four bring strong recent form to the 1600m BM80, with BEL MEZYAAN (4) the leading chance ahead of SULEK (9), followed by ROSA AOTEAROA (5) and SPIRITED DEFENCE (3).
